An exceptional red wine of great complexity, made from Nero d'Avola grapes blended with Petit Verdot, Sirah and a small proportion of other varieties, aged in new French oak barrels for 13, 14 months and 20 months in bottle. Deep ruby red in color, the nose offers a rich olfactory bouquet, with ripe red fruit, balsamic and floral and spicy notes. On the palate it is succulent, with soft, balanced tannins and great persistence. Excellent throughout a meal, it goes well with meat-based first and main courses, such as roast meats, rack of lamb and Wellington fillet. Excellent with mushrooms and truffles. Best discovered as an accompaniment to dark chocolate chili tasting. Alcohol 13.5%. Serving temperature 16 - 18°C.
Donnafugata: a quote from Tomasi di Lampedusa's The Gattopardo, which recalls the story of a queen fleeing to the lands where the estate vineyards stand, inspired Giacomo Rallo and his wife Gabriella in 1983 to name the winery, which in a short time became a symbol of the new style of wine-making in Sicily. Both experts, Giacomo by DNA, Gabriella by passion, they still lead Donnafugata today, together with their children Jole and Antonio, with the goal of making artisanal viticulture of excellence, an expression of an authentic and sustainable Sicily, while respecting the environment: no to herbicides and chemical fertilizers, integrated pest management and rationalization of the use of natural resources. The same respect for nature and its fruits that we find in the winery, in the processing and winemaking techniques.
